Unfortunately, you are wrong.

What happens is there is a mod for minecraft which allows a user to create objects with certain attributes that can possibly added to an object. Of course if you put certain additions to the item that can't use it, add a bunch of a random text, etc. it causes it to be rendered on your player easily because YOU made it. 

Once it's dropped, a player will pick it up and EVERYTHING renders at once, causing your total alotted processing capacity to either overload or hit the cap, which causes a maaaaassssive lag spike.

Formatting codes come into play here, but not in the sense you're thinking.
